‘‘I enjoy the immediacy of working en plein air, recording fleeting information as quickly as I can, as the colours change in front of me and my painting changes with them. I use a knife to build layers and enjoy the visceral quality of the paint itself and how it naturally behaves, juxtaposed with picking out details and enhancing parts of the scene that interest me most” – Lucy Kent
This exhibition is the culmination of the last year in lockdown in which Lucy has rediscovered her passion for the British countryside. It will comprise of 50 new works depicting Devon, Dorset, Cornwall and her home county of Wiltshire – demonstrating her signature large skies, rolling clouds and a kaleidoscope of colours, which capture a fleeting moment in nature. As a contemporary landscape artist who loves to work en plein air, Lucy paints thickly and quickly with a brush and palette knife. This fluidity and rhythm give her paintings a wonderfully loose expression of the scene before her.
Having sold a record number of more than 200 mini-paintings as part of the Artist Support Pledge, all of which sold in seconds of posting on Instagram; the demand for Lucy’s work continues. Since studying with us at the Studios, Lucy has held 4 sell-out solo shows to date. She has also been part of various group exhibitions, including Grandy Art, Josie Eastwood Fine Art, the ROI and RBA.
