County Hall Arts, based at London County Hall in Southbank, are running a landscape painting competition called ‘Riverside Views’, in the lead up to an Exhibition on the same subject.
The landscape competition comes with a prize of £10,000 for the winner, as well as prizes for the two runners-up.
The aim of the competition is to encourage artists from a range of backgrounds to paint the same view from Southbank, so that viewers can experience each individuals own take and experience of the scene. Taken from the competition’s website:
“Landscape painting gives artists an opportunity not just to express the visual truth of the world around them, but also its emotional and psychological truth. This is why we want to see a particular London scene through someone else’s eyes… yours
We’re searching for artists who will rise to the challenge of following in the tradition of the great artists mentioned above and create work that celebrates the fabulous, iconic Thames in a fresh and contemporary way, finding modern, surprising, individual and diverse perspectives on these familiar scenes and vistas”
The deadline for entries is the 30th September, with the Exhibition provisionally scheduled for November 2021.
